Support Only Conservative Candidates
To give the Conservative Declaration of Independence from the Republican Party meaning, conservatives must shun unconditional support for policies, laws and candidates based strictly upon Party loyalty. The following are some recommendations for showing liberals that you mean business.
Support Conservative Political Action Committees
- Send 100% of your contributions to verified conservative Political Action Committees. The Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund are two of the best PACs available. They are committed to helping elect economic conservatives to the House of Representatives and the US Senate. They provide funds to help conservatives defeat liberals in Republican primary elections and also help conservatives defeat Democrats in general elections. The Republican Party has criticized them because they have declared their independence from the old guard big-government wing of the Party. Click on the icons below to visit their sites.
- Send no money to standard Republican fund-raising groups or Political Action Committees. Some of it will wind up supporting liberals.
Refine Your Own Political Skills
- Become knowledgeable by reading. The "Books" page of this site lists a few excellent books that will help you sharpen your understanding of political issues past and present.
- Attend some of the Leadership Institute's excellent and very affordable courses on a wide range of topics related to political campaigns. Their programs include the Grassroots Campaign School, Candidate Development School, Public Speaking Workshops and many others. Click on the link below to visit their site.
- Join a conservative organization and help work for and seek out conservative candidates.
- Participate in political blogs to help sharpen your writing skills and to express your support for conservative candidates.
- Volunteer to help the campaign of a conservative candidate, even if the candidate represents a district different from the one you live in.
- Encourage your friends and neighbors to vote for the candidate(s) you support. Many people pay little attention to politics and are often at a loss for whom they should vote. You'll be amazed at how much influence you have, provided you know what you're talking about. In effect, an activist has many votes through the influence he or she has on others. Be sure to remind your friends and neighbors that ignoring politics is a bad idea because politics most certainly doesn't ignore them, especially when the time comes to decide who will pay taxes.
Challenge Candidates
- If a candidate appears at a forum that provides for questions and answers, show up and ask questions to determine whether the candidate advocates big or small government.
- If one candidate is a liberal and another is a conservative at a debate or candidate forum, bring a group of your conservative friends equipped with two lists of questions. One list should expose the liberal as an enemy of liberty and should be as embarrassing as possible. The other list should permit the conservative to demonstrate that he/she is a defender of liberty.
Make Your Views Known
- If a Republican votes for a liberal law such as a minimum-wage increase, corporate welfare, regulation of an industry, etc., let him or her know you are unhappy about it.
- If your ballot gives you a choice between a liberal Republican and a socialist Democrat, let the Republican know you regard him or her as "the lesser of two evils," and because you so deplore evil you'll be working to help elect a conservative from another district.
- Be sure to refrain from confirming that you might vote for a liberal Republican, even if you plan to. Let the liberal live with the uncertainty that his/her misguided, anti-liberty ideas deserve.
- Communicate your views through personal contact and/or a letter to the editor. Keep in mind that a politician views a letter to the editor as a message from many constituents, not just you.
